Nice, the capital of the Cote d’Azur has been a very popular tourist destination for many years. Here you’ll find plenty of very nice beaches, splendid views and delightful seafront promenades, but Nice, the famous Cote d Azur tourist destination, has many other tourist attractions for all its visitors all year around.
This area of the French Riviera is just perfect for sun loving Francophiles. Indeed many tourists choose to come to the wonderful Nice area just to relax and enjoy the spectacular coastline during the sunny summer months or mild winters, where they are able to sunbathe, paddle in the bright blue sea, swim, enjoy water sports (waterski, parascend, jet-ski) or just sip a long cool cocktail near the sea-front reading a book.
Most visitors staying in Nice will feel like they MUST have a stroll on the ‘Promenade des Anglais’ which by the way dates back almost 200 years. Central to Nices’ life, the legendary boulevard is usually referred to as the ‘Promenade’ and stretches for about 6 km (4 miles), with the classic bright blue chairs where one can relax in the sun whilst enjoying the superb sea views.
Visiting tourists from all over the world will find plenty of sightseeing opportunities all around Nice. Many of these are historic and date from around the 17th century; the magnificent Lascaris Palais, the Sainte Réparate Cathedral and the buildings of the Monastère Notre Dame de Cimiez. But of course, for most visitors the famous coastline is Nice’s main tourist attraction, especially the polished pebbles of Neptune Beach which are simply unmissable, along with its sun loungers, pedalos and children’s play areas. Amateurs of nature might want to check the Phoenix Parc Floral, the city’s famous botanical gardens.
If you wish to get away from the coast and get in the shade on a hot day, other tourist attractions worth visiting includes the 16th-century Fort du Mont Alban with its impressive military architecture and stunning views, the dominating Nice Acropolis with its multimedia and conference centre and the Old Port filled with expensive yachts and surrounding grand 18th century buildings and design. For those interested in art, the Musée des Beaux Arts is situated along the Avenue des Baumettes and the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain is on Avenue St. Jean Baptiste which features modern paintings and pop art.
